Common sense fitness – #lazygirlsguidetofitness

Wearing Hello Parry Leopard Print Fitness Pants
As much as I had a laugh at the thought of these ideas with work mates, I actually saw some truth in them and how they could actually work…so I trialed them, well slap my face and call me Lorna – they work! It’s not often you’ll see me lift a weight, I tried to work with a PT before and well, they made me lift weights, I have a short temper but tried to be nice about it as I thought in my head about throwing the weight at their face. Then I realised extra effort was required to do that so I simmered down and cried about it instead.
Give these tips a go instead of sweating it out massively because we all know, my efforts are minimal…
We all love to snooze, who the hell wants to get up at 4:30am like me? Yeah, nobody! I tend to snooze for half an hour and actually end up at about 5am rushing around…but I have been setting my alarm 5 minutes earlier than normal lately, then doing some bed exercises. I am not an expert, so I raise my legs parallel in the air, arms at my side but elevated, and proceed to do mini sit ups just using my stomach muscles. Do 3 sets of 10, you can then move your legs up and down without touching the bed, do 3 sets of 5. Now HIT THE SHOWERS and proceed to stretch out those muscles.
Oh man oh man! I can’t wait for that luscious sun, when a glimmer of hope comes beaming out amongst those clouds I am out the back yard on a banana lounge soaking up the rays! Grab your magazine, lay out back, pop those ankle weights on your legs and alternate with lifting high to the sky while you’re reading the latest SHOP! Do this until you have flicked through the magazine (If you’re anything like me, skimming takes 5-10 minutes)
As cool as a fool in a pool
When summer does finally decide to rear it’s pretty head, I love to pool dance! I have mentioned it before, but it’s a pretty great option if you a) have your own pool or b) don’t mind others watching you dance. Crank the tunes, jump in, and dance. If you’re in a public pool just leg dance so nobody knows what you’re doing. Water is a great tool too, you can do small aerobic exercises like trying to run up and down the lanes, and doing your best ballet moves under water by extending your leg up and down. I mean, you may look a bit like a frog gone wild…but frogs are cool – right?
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is cup of tea time in my opinion! You need that milk (or maybe you don’t but either way grab the milk) so why not use the opportunity to do some mini exercise? A good cup of tea takes 3 minutes to brew before adding milk (or cold water), so grab your soy, almond OR cow’s milk and lift it up and down for 3 minutes while your tea is brewing. That’s 3 times a day that you could potentially be giving yourself a quick work out!!
Shop til you Drop!
My work mate gave me this idea, she says that when she goes shopping, she parks as far away (a great idea because you can actually get a spot without stalking) as she can. Then goes to do her shopping, and is stuck with all these heavy shopping bags that she now carries to the car. An EXCELLENT 5 minute work out!!
Be Sporty Spice
OK ladies, you have permission to shop for clothing! Go on, treat yo-self! If you stock yourself with a few cute “gym” pieces and some really great sport shoes (Nikes are my choice) then just proceed to wear them a lot, you are more inclined to get a bit more sporty. Those shoes will make you want to bounce around more, and having gym clothes on does motivate you to be a little more active. Sports Luxe is ha-yuuuuuge this year, take advantage of it, get bloody comfortable!!
I reckon the most walked out pathway in my house is lounge to kitchen – same with you? Yeah, I love food! Why walk it though when you can lunge to the kitchen? LUNGE…LUNGE…LUNGE, pick up hommus and carrots from fridge then LUNGE…LUNGE…LUNGE back to your couch! Simples!

EVO – Saving ordinary humans from themselves
7 October, 2014
Products that do not test on animals, products that are paraben and sulphate free, packaging that is 100% recyclable, simplicity is key, Evo do not spend all of their money of advertising and marketing, instead they are throwing it all into the stuff INSIDE the little bottles that sit in salons across Australia. It’s pretty easy really, make a product work, and focus on that rather than making a bottle look flashy, with glitter and bright colours and promises of changing the world.
Evo won’t change the world, but it will change your hair, it doesn’t promise to FIX split ends, but it promises to temporarily seal the ends together and make your hair softer and more manageable. Personally, I have been using Evo for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed this “Softer, manageable” claim immediately.
I am currently using Evo shampoo and conditioner when I get my hair washed and blow dried at 501 Hair Lounge, it really does make a difference, especially to hair extensions and the considerable difference has really been noticeable. I am also using the “Haze” styling powder – the higher the hair the closer to heaven right? This powder puts the oompf in your hair like you wouldn’t believe, just a little sprinkle can make your hair Jersey-licious than ever!
I am so in love with the Love Perpetua Shine Drops, with hair extensions I find they look a little “Playboy bunny” but with the shine drops it separates the curl making them more natural. I am also an advocate for using the shine drops to blend in my real hair with the extensions by rubbing it through my whole head.
Lastly, the Easy Tiger (Straightening balm) and Liquid Rollers (curl balm) are what they say, they help a curl, and a straight look for your hair before using a heat product, they basically help to protect your hair when you are throwing all the straighteners and blow dryers at your head, basically they help to smooth out the hair and help with flyaways and frizz.
So…Evo will not save the world, change your life completely OR help you to lose 10 kilo’s but it WILL help your hair and make your morning routine just that bit easier. You can get all of your Evo products from 501 Hair Lounge who take pride in their products, they have everything you need! Don’t forget, all of October is 501 Hair Lounge month and you can get an exclusive discount by mentioning the blog (read more here) PLUS you will get a FREE Evo product too!!!!
The complete make-over in 40 minutes!

My hair is important to me, it’s the one thing I think that would really devastate me if I ever had to give it up, I am a definite stickler for change though and as I took out “Most creative hair” award in Year 12 awards (not the most likely to achieve, not the highest marks in my class, not the best singer) it masked me as a Gen Y with characteristics of which were “Open to change” and “Attention seeking” (Sound familiar??) What 100 years old taught me…
28 September, 2014
Seeing Advanced Style – the film made me think about the things that I learnt growing up, because I am yet to experience almost 100 years old but…the years I have spent beating myself up about certain things – it all became suddenly clear. So instead of reviewing the movie for you (because I highly suggest you just watch it) I’m giving you the things I wish I knew when I was a teenager…
Don’t be the bully
I was sometimes the bully, I sometimes got bullied! It’s no excuse to put the anger onto someone else though. I wish I knew how hurtful I was being, and I wish I stuck up more for the people who didn’t know how to. I wish I was more understanding and formed bonds with outsiders, because the feeling I get now for sticking up for people and stamping on pack mentality, is the greatest feeling in the world. Do that more!
Be an individual.
I always was different to others and I like to think that I rocked that however I still pretended to like things just so I fitted in. The difference is, if you really stick to your individualism that’s what sets you apart from others and really helps you to achieve your dreams. When you grow up – that is what gets you the opportunities over the line of people who are all the same cardboard cut out.
Look after and listen to your body.
It’s the best piece of advice I could give. Alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, bad eating habits, so many things I failed at right up until recently, poisoning my body constantly. It’s caused many problems, mentally, physically, emotionally! The minute you decide your health is more important, is the first day to the rest of your life – cliche and all, I can’t stress that enough!
It doesn’t get easier – so deal with it!
You think everything is so bad when you’re a teenager. Your boyfriend dumps you and your entire world crashes around you. Guess what? It doesn’t get easier! It gets a hell of a lot harder…but life throws curve balls and you just need to get stronger to deal with them. Don’t HIDE from your problems, tackle them head on, the stronger you get, the better equipped you are to deal with these things.
Be you and only you.
Don’t ever try to be something your not. I tried so hard to be academic at school and always failed. But recently I realised I was the very small percentage of the creatives who weren’t the book smart people that the education system hones in on and for that reason alone, makes you smart. Do what you need to do to pass your grades but don’t beat yourself up constantly for not being the most intelligent. At the end of the day you can still achieve what you want with hard work, motivation and determination.
Talk to people.
I bottle things up…sometimes for years. It didn’t help me growing up, I’m now stuck with the problem of finding it hard to show emotion and get my words out! I’m beginning to realise that talking to others does help. That it’s not always a burden. Confide and trust in people you love because they’ll want to help you – even if it is just to listen. I hate coming across as weak but when you let your guard down, you let people into your vulnerable side and that only brings you closer to them.
Stamp out peer pressure.
I’ll admit to smoking for a good six months when I was 16/17 but I never did it for my own reasons, it was from peer pressure and looking cool. Admittedly I was never addicted, and I personally hated it, so the unnecessary sucking back of tar into my body was because of other people’s opinions? I was prepared to kill my body slowly to fit in? When you write it out – you realise HOW ridiculous it sounds. I now rarely drink, and have always said no to hard drugs, stand up for yourself and how you feel – your rights are bloody important! Be the one that says no – people respect you for that. Oh and the minute someone calls you a pussy for not drinking, is the time you walk away, they’re obviously not in your life for the right reasons. THEIR opinions on you, clearly do not matter, therefore, why worry about what people think?
I know this wasn’t necessarily a review to the documentary I loved so much but I feel like the ladies I watched on the screen were so damn inspirational it just made me think about the bullshit in life that people worry about. Life is what you make it, do more of what makes you happy, look after yourself, be content, don’t try to please everybody else all the time, be mindful, kind, spend time with those you love, tell people how you feel, dress the way you want to, let people in, listen, speak, be heard! Life is hard sometimes but you’re the only one who can pick yourself up and make a change, stop wallowing in self pity and do something about it. And maybe if you’re feeling like you need a positivity boost, watch Advanced Style! Old ladies have never been so inspirational!

10 bad-ass things
18 September, 2014
Photos by Tony Lendrum Photography | Wearing Blushed by Teagan Jacobs | Hair by 501 Hair Lounge
Leather seems to give any outfit a rock edge, seeing as this Blushed dress is so stunning by itself, it almost feels like sacrilege to throw a leather jacket and some combat boots on, but when you can wear a dress more than one way, then it’s worth purchasing and keeping in your wardrobe for a plethora of occasions. I thought this was a great time to give you some insight into my edgy side, I always find that when a blogger really opens up in their writing on a personal level, that it’s more often that I’ll read their post right to the end…so hopefully I can do myself some justice here with 10 things you didn’t know about me (with an emphasis on this edgy side of my personality, which to be honest is all just about looks, I am barely a bad-ass haha).
See the other post with this dress here… Continue Reading
The emergence of Nike as a streetwear brand
11 September, 2014
Those that know me, understand my tomboy tendencies, a lifetime of growing up in a small country town it was a necessity for me to work on my birds nest hair and never brush it – adding a cap made it all better, wear 4 day old t-shirts with stains, and to of course make sure I was fully prepared to race any boy that dared me with bangin’ kicks on my feet! It was all about the image after all and as a girl that dressed like a boy…the more boyish, the better! While friends wore Apple Pie lace ups and sandals with socks, here I was trying to ruin my sneakers by scuffing them across the bitumen so I could get the new season. As luck would have it though, I grew up and my outfits matured…however the tomboy style seemed to follow me through, now I am still found wearing ripped jeans, a simple white tee and of course, comfortable sneaks on those casual fridays! But it’s just that much more sophisticated and socially acceptable. Continue Reading
Spring hair – yeah yeah!!
8 September, 2014
I feel a bit like I am undercover in these fresh new 501 Hair Lounge locks, simply put, nobody recognises me at all! I feel like I have to explain WHO I am before people realise it’s me, I am getting used to it but I think considering I have decided these extensions are so totally radness that I am keeping them for as long as 501 will have me, and I’ll be recognised as a long haired blonde again not a short haired blonde!!! Swap don’t Stop: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Fitness
26 August, 2014
The amazing SWAP IT DON’T STOP IT campaign that ran through all media avenues a few years ago really sent out a great message, and it was one that stuck with me to use, years later! I don’t want to give up chocolate, that is my happy food, and who am I to deny my body of these…cravings?! I kept telling myself, if I crave it, my body needs it. Sort of true yes, but can I find an alternative instead? To be honest, the extra fat around my butt, shortness of breath and unhealthiness which caused so many problems and unnecessary doctor appointments and tests was a big enough reason to kick my ass a little. (I repeat, a little!) Continue Reading
Superfoods and seeds: The Lazy Girls Guide to Fitness
23 August, 2014
Hmm…superfoods, how did we only start hearing about them in the last couple of years? I, of course thought it was a load of crap until I started actually eating certain superfoods more and more. Seeds especially because, well, I love seeds! (Maybe I was a Macaw in a previous life – I know people would say I am as loud as one!!) Continue Reading
