As much as I had a laugh at the thought of these ideas with work mates, I actually saw some truth in them and how they could actually work…so I trialed them, well slap my face and call me Lorna – they work! It’s not often you’ll see me lift a weight, I tried to work with a PT before and well, they made me lift weights, I have a short temper but tried to be nice about it as I thought in my head about throwing the weight at their face. Then I realised extra effort was required to do that so I simmered down and cried about it instead.
Give these tips a go instead of sweating it out massively because we all know, my efforts are minimal…
We all love to snooze, who the hell wants to get up at 4:30am like me? Yeah, nobody! I tend to snooze for half an hour and actually end up at about 5am rushing around…but I have been setting my alarm 5 minutes earlier than normal lately, then doing some bed exercises. I am not an expert, so I raise my legs parallel in the air, arms at my side but elevated, and proceed to do mini sit ups just using my stomach muscles. Do 3 sets of 10, you can then move your legs up and down without touching the bed, do 3 sets of 5. Now HIT THE SHOWERS and proceed to stretch out those muscles.
Oh man oh man! I can’t wait for that luscious sun, when a glimmer of hope comes beaming out amongst those clouds I am out the back yard on a banana lounge soaking up the rays! Grab your magazine, lay out back, pop those ankle weights on your legs and alternate with lifting high to the sky while you’re reading the latest SHOP! Do this until you have flicked through the magazine (If you’re anything like me, skimming takes 5-10 minutes)
As cool as a fool in a pool
When summer does finally decide to rear it’s pretty head, I love to pool dance! I have mentioned it before, but it’s a pretty great option if you a) have your own pool or b) don’t mind others watching you dance. Crank the tunes, jump in, and dance. If you’re in a public pool just leg dance so nobody knows what you’re doing. Water is a great tool too, you can do small aerobic exercises like trying to run up and down the lanes, and doing your best ballet moves under water by extending your leg up and down. I mean, you may look a bit like a frog gone wild…but frogs are cool – right?
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is cup of tea time in my opinion! You need that milk (or maybe you don’t but either way grab the milk) so why not use the opportunity to do some mini exercise? A good cup of tea takes 3 minutes to brew before adding milk (or cold water), so grab your soy, almond OR cow’s milk and lift it up and down for 3 minutes while your tea is brewing. That’s 3 times a day that you could potentially be giving yourself a quick work out!!
Shop til you Drop!
My work mate gave me this idea, she says that when she goes shopping, she parks as far away (a great idea because you can actually get a spot without stalking) as she can. Then goes to do her shopping, and is stuck with all these heavy shopping bags that she now carries to the car. An EXCELLENT 5 minute work out!!
Be Sporty Spice
OK ladies, you have permission to shop for clothing! Go on, treat yo-self! If you stock yourself with a few cute “gym” pieces and some really great sport shoes (Nikes are my choice) then just proceed to wear them a lot, you are more inclined to get a bit more sporty. Those shoes will make you want to bounce around more, and having gym clothes on does motivate you to be a little more active. Sports Luxe is ha-yuuuuuge this year, take advantage of it, get bloody comfortable!!
I reckon the most walked out pathway in my house is lounge to kitchen – same with you? Yeah, I love food! Why walk it though when you can lunge to the kitchen? LUNGE…LUNGE…LUNGE, pick up hommus and carrots from fridge then LUNGE…LUNGE…LUNGE back to your couch! Simples!
